This years "Solstice Show" will feature The Cosmic Giggle Factory
Why do I call it "The Solstice Show" you ask? Well, that's a good story. First of all, it's very close to the winter solstice. And it isn't really a Christmas show. The other reason I'll probably explain in pretty good detail on the radio tomorrow night. But what is for sure is this is the show that features Arkansas groups that I got to see live back in the early 1990's. These recordings are always very rare out of print or bootlegged live gigs. I am very proud to announce that this year we will devote the show to a band from Little Rock, AR that was really popular from late 1980's and broke up somewhere around 94 or so. Starting at 6pm on Dec. 18th we will be rocking to the crazy ass sounds of The Cosmic Giggle Factory!!!! I'm also very proud that we will be sharing this to the rest of the world on shortwave radio via WBCQ on 5110 kHz as well as our own KXUA on 88.3fm....and if that don't work we will be streaming as always on kxua.uark.edu and the splatterbox webstream from Area 51. This will be at least a 3 hour show. Hope you tune in and email us reception reports at: plasticmagic883@yahoo.com

LOST DISCS RADIO SHOW on Mystery Show this Sat. night 17th, 2011 on KXUA
Hey everybody out there in radioland!
This coming Saturday night, December 17th, starting at 10pm I am planning on playing two classic Christmas episodes from what I believe to be one of the greatest rock and roll radio programs ever, The Lost Discs Radio Show. For those who have not heard the LOST DISCS RADIO SHOW, you are in for a treat, if not a taste of what real underground shortwave radio is all about. As a veteran record collector of almost 30 years, I never paid much attention to collecting Christmas records until I heard this! These guys have been doing this show for about 10 years or so now on shortwave station WBCQ that also now runs my show, PLASTIC MAGIC. Anybody who is a collector or interested in music of the 50's-early 70's should find this top notch. I hope you will tune in this Saturday night to KXUA 88.3fm in and around the Fayetteville, AR area to hear something truly special! Look them up at www.lostdiscsradio.com

Plastic Magic podcast #115 Dec. 11th, 2011
Hey everybody out there in podcast land! Here is a relaxing episode of Plastic Magic to sooth yer nerves. This is what we listened to over KXUA 88.3fm on the night of Dec. 11th, 2011: ARMAGEDDON (1975), APRIL WINE (1972), CHICAGO (1969), POT LIQUOR (1972), CAPT. BEEFHEART AND THE MAGIC BAND (1972), DR. JOHN THE NIGHT TRIPPER (1971), CHRIS SQUIRE (1975), BRIAN AUGER AND THE TRINITY (1968), THE LESLIE WEST BAND (1976) and much more! doWnLoaD iT hERe: podcast #115
Also I would like to add this (as I also posted on the Plastic Magic Facebook page last night right after the show):
Also I would like to add this (as I also posted on the Plastic Magic Facebook page last night right after the show):
to anyone who listened to the show tonight...or will hear the podcast later....the rant I went on tonight was not in anyway directed to ANYONE in the free radio community...ie shortwave, community radio, pirate radio, hobbyist or the like. I just want to be clear. This was about something that happened last week with a "commercial" radio station who, I felt, was trying to take advantage of me and ...risk the artistic integrity of the show. Anyone wanting to air the Plastic Magic radio show can feel free to do so without running ad space on it, preferably live. Let me know you are doing it and I'll announce your call letters. If you want to carry it with commercials I need a kick back to buy new records....I think that is fair.

on air this sunday after 2 weeks off
Hey kids, after skipping out for a couple of weeks Plastic Magic will be on air on both KXUA 88.3fm in and around Fayetteville, AR from 6-8pm (or 9pm)EST and also on WBCQ 5110kHz shortwave from 7-9pm (0000 world radio time) with at least first hour live. The show this week will be a little different than the usual heavy psych and garage/ bongrock that it normally is. This week I will be playing thru a big stack of soul and blues 45's and possibly some Razorback novilty records (how many depends on how the game against Auburn goes tonight). I bought all these records at a thrift store in Russellville while there visiting my Mom last summer and forgot to grab them as I left, but I was there last sunday for a family reunion and remembered to grab them then. They are mostly pretty beat up hense this will probably be the noisiest Plastic Magic program ever! But I cleaned em up best I could and some are worth hearing no matter what. You will hear alot of rare soul and blues from Memphis, Lousiana, Nashville, Detroit, Alabama and Arkansas ect.

On this show we remembered what 9/11 was for us 10years ago. Lots of people emailed their story for us to read over the air as it was broadcast on KXUA 88.3fm from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and also on international shortwave via WBCQ 5110kHz. We also made it sort of a night to play music both old and new from NYC. We also played two groups not from New York (explained in detail on the show as to why these we're played).
On this podcast, which is 3 hours long, we played: THE MOONEY SUZUKI, SONIC YOUTH, THE VELVET UNDERGROUND, THE DRUIDS OF STONEHENGE, THE FUGS, THE JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION, THE TONY WILLIAMS LIFETIME, JONATHAN FIRE*EATER, VANILLA FUDGE, THE CRAMPS, NEW YORK DOLLS, KISS, THE BLUES MAGOOS and much more. If I am not mistaken it will air also on shortwave the night on Area 51 WBCQ 5110kHz where we have a lot of listeners in that area. Oh and by the way, the tape shown in this entry and the other photos of tapes are actual off air recordings of the show made on the home Hi Fi. They are recorded from the live transmition from KXUA for my own archive collection. Plastic Magic May 15th, 2011 Podcast
Hey there friends and neighbors. Looks like the podcast worked out all right and this is what you have to look forward to: THE KEEF HARTLEY BAND, SANDY HURVITZ, MOTHER EARTH, BLUE AQUARIUS, U.S. APPLE CORPS, BLACK OAK ARKANSAS, CHEECH AND CHONG, RARE EARTH, BLUES MAGOOS, BLACK PEARL, MASHMAKHAN, DAVID PEEL AND THE LOWER EAST SIDE and much more! Co-hosted with your Uncle Butch. This show sort of loosely put around the growing paranoia of the 2012 prophecies, that was sort of inspired from listening to shortwave radio over the weekend. If it sounds like we are making fun, please forgive. I know very well the guys we are talking about take this shit very seriously. OK...that said I present to you: The battle of the shortwave profits podcast

Plastic Magic Valentine's/ Birthday Special Feb. 13th, 2011
Hey there kids! I guess it has been a long long while since I posted a new podcast. But anyway, I have crawled out of the snow (record breaking snowfall in Arkansas!) and dusted off the old Plastic Magic blog site.....ahhh and here we are!
On this special (really not so special...don't get your hopes up) episode I invited my buddy (your) Uncle Butch on the show to celebrate not only Valentine's day but also my birthday (Feb. 11) and Butch's (Feb. 14). You will here songs of love and devotion from: FRANK ZAPPA, THE ELECTRIC JUNKYARD, TODD RUNDGREN, POINT BLANK, CARLY SIMON, THE BEACH BOYS, MOBY GRAPE, THE ASSOCIATION, STEPPENWOLF, MEAT LOAF, THE SOFT MACHINE and much more...hope you enjoy this Plastic Magic podcast of LOVE

This is the 3rd annual Winter Solstice show broadcast over air on KXUA Dec. 26th, 2010 featuring local (and this time regional) groups from the 1990's. It is my pleasure to present to you: MULEHEAD, THE COSMIC GIGGLE FACTORY, PUNKINHEAD, SHINDIG SHOP, BILLY GOAT, JUPITER HOLLOW, TOAST, MEDICINE SHOW, THE PRANKS and for the grand finale, the full live recording of a one time tribute concert to Frank Zappa not long after his passing away in 1994. This concert featured Little Rock musicians from various groups, called the PHI ZAPPA KRAPPA PROJECT and was recorded at Juanita's on April 17th, 1994. All of these recordings come from my personal tape collection and some were recorded by me, with no other copies made! DOWNLOAD: podcast# 087
